WHAT'S KARUNA MEAN?
There are two Sanskrit words frequently used by Buddhists that are translated as "compassion." One is Karuna, which means compassion, active sympathy, gentle affection, and a willingness to bear the pain of others. The other word, Metta, means loving-kindness; a benevolence toward all beings free of selfish attachment.
Karuna is important in all schools of Buddhism. For Theravada Buddhists, dwelling in Karuna is a means for attaining a happy present life and heavenly rebirth. In Theravada Buddhism, Karuna is one of the four “divine abodes”(Brahma vihara), along with loving-kindness (Pali: metta), sympathetic joy (mudita), and equanimity (upekkha).
In the Pali cannon, the Buddha recommends cultivating these four virtuous mental states in both householders and monastics. When one develops these four states, the Buddha counsels radiating them in all directions, as in the following stock canonical phrase regarding Karuna:
He keeps pervading the first direction as well as the second direction, the third, and the fourth with an awareness imbued with compassion. Thus he keeps pervading above, below, and all around, everywhere and in every respect the all-encompassing cosmos with an awareness imbued with compassion: abundant, expansive, immeasurable, free from hostility, free from ill will.
HOW DO WE RUN?
Karuna Youth Cambodia is a nonprofit organization that works on Education projects with poor youths and children around Cambodia.
Karuna Youth Cambodia Organization was founded by Mr. Kim Sav Phearith, a former slum youth in Beoung Kok Lake area, Phnom Penh in August 2011 as a Karuna Youth Club.
Starting out empty-handed, the Karuna Youth Club has involved the community with humanitarian work by educating people about languages, leadership skills, and morality, providing a place for poor students to live, provide scholarships for poor children to learn and have a better life.
So far around 6years of our work, we have been involved and helped more than 2000 youths and children in Phnom Penh and some provinces.
In 2015, Karuna Youth Club was upgraded to be Karuna Youth Cambodia Organization and works based in Phnom Penh and Kompong Speu province.

We want to see people who need assistance get warmth, personal development, shared knowledge and experience with compassion.
OUR MISSION:
Karuna Youth Cambodia is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to work with poor people such as youth and children to build their knowledge and support them with physical, emotional, and resource force.
Karuna Youth Cambodia has 3 main missions:
1. Provide free education for rural youths and children
2. Motivate and give the opportunity to youth and children to help involved with community development and Social works
3. Support poor kids with physical, emotional, and resources.

SAV PHEARITH KIM is from a normal family who lived in slum areas, in Phnom Penh. He worked with an NGO as a volunteer to help promote children's rights since he was 12 years old. When he started college, he worked with some NGOs in Phnom Penh to provide Education for poor children in rural areas. Understanding poor child's life and needs, in 2011 he established Karuna Youth Club with his team to provide Education to poor youths and children in Cambodia. In 2015, Karuna Youth Club was upgraded to Karuna Youth Cambodia Organization and he still plays an important role to help develop and sustain the organization.
